There a ton of things going on these days with NALS! I made a similar blog post over on the NALS Community but I am going to gear this one more to how you can help NALS market itself and help make the new products and programs even better!
As many of you know last night was the first WebEd webinar session and it was a great success! We have also announced the topic of our second session and it will be held during the afternoon trying to reach those that can't attend the evening sessions. As you guys can see from the registration form being a NALS member will save you some cash on these sessions. These sessions are top notch and are on the same level of the presentations you would see at one of our conferences. These are going to become more frequent and will vary on times and topics. Along with these we are continuing our free Online Learning Center sessions. These sessions along with our conferences and meetings across the country provide a good base of CLE for all members! Take some time to invite your co-workers to these sessions! Also contact WebEd@nals.org for potential group discounts if you want to try and get a group together in your office to attend the next WebEd session!
The next big step we have taken over the last few months has been our dive into social networking! Hopefully you all know about our NALS Community as it has grown to 350 members. We also have a Facebook Group with over 500 and a LinkedIn network over 500 so it is as easy as ever to utilize your NALS membership to build a solid networking chain. We also jumped in the Twitter train and you can follow us at NALStweet on twitter to see updates and get reminders of what is going on with NALS.
The third big step we took is not nearly as exciting for you guys as it is for us. We recently went live with a new Member Login area which will allow you to edit your personal information directly on our database to help us make sure our information is as up to date as it can be. You can also use this as a directory to find members around the country and get in touch with them. The new functionality also includes a new e-commerce area which features a new shopping cart and it will make registering for things and purchasing store items.
We are trying to do all that we can to make membership in NALS as valuable as we can and we need your help to spread the word! NALS does not want to spend your dues money on advertising, we would rather spend it on great new features for you to enjoy but we do need your help so that we can grow our membership and continue to provide top-notch programs for you to take advantage of.
if you have been thinking big and have a good way to do this please leave it in the comment area for everyone to see!

do you Twitter?
I know you have probably heard about Twitter and maybe even are posting tweets of you own. For those of you that don't know what Twitter is, it is basically a way for you to post the things that you are doing each day so that those friends, family or colleagues that care can follow things that you do. A "tweet" is a post to Twitter, and these tweets are really just miniature blog posts (limited to 140 characters) and are informal ideas, thoughts, or goings on in peoples lives.
NALS is on Twitter now and you can sign up and follow us by going to twitter.com/NALStweet. We will be using this as a marketing tool to keep those following us up to date with what is going on with NALS. We will be posting reminders for deadlines, sneak peak info on events and meetings, updates to the website and other fun tidbits that we think will be interesting to those that are following us.
Why am I telling you this? Well a lot of people twitter...millions of people twitter...and I am not joking! You too can be a part of this information stream and can set up a twitter for your chapters to use as a way for your members to keep up with what is new and changing. It is as simple as updating your tweets and you can set up most mobile phones so you can update them from anywhere. They are short, sweet and to the point and are a FREE and easy way to keep people updated. And they can become quite fun!
At first I didn't understand the point either but now I check my tweets often and I see how the can be really beneficial to states and chapters if their members are on twitter or are willing to sign up and check so they can see what is going on...all the time!

The Marketing Blog is Back!
Okay...Tulsa is done and it was a great conference! I will be committed to updating this blog more often now...I will need some help however.
I NEED COMMENTS! This will help me understand what it is that you need from this blog and how I can make it serve you the way you need it to. I want to know what you think about what is said and whether or not you think it is important to you.
I want to use this as a way to help you "Think Big" and also use this as a place for people to bounce ideas off one another.
I will work on putting together a new post...in the mean time please post some comments on what you want to see from me!

New NALS Community
Well hopefully you guys have noticed and joined the ALL NEW NALS Community! This version is way more user friendly and should help combat the spam that was taking over the previous version. We are using a free service called Ning to host the community. You too can use Ning to host your own social network...might be a good idea to use this for your local and state chapters. They even have a chat feature that you can add and use to meet and discuss things. I don't think you can get a transcript but it would still be a good way to bounce ideas off of one another without anyone having to travel or call someone.
Check out the NALS Community here:
Enjoy!

P.S. Leave me some comments so I know if anyone is reading this!

I am so sorry!
I have neglected my blogs! I want to apologize for this and I hope to get back into a regular posting schedule to keep things up to date. Please if there is something specific you would like me to touch on, post it in the comments and I will see what I can come up with!

Holiday Marketing
I know it is hard to see it this way but the Holidays are a great time for your state or local chapters to come together and help out a worthy cause...and this is marketing! Make sure if you choose to help a local food bank or pitch in at a Habitat for Humanity site that you are sending out press releases to local newspapers informing them of your good deeds. This is also a great way to show the community and potential members that the organization is socially conscience and willing to help. You could also use this as an excellent internal marketing tool by adopting a local family or by trying to raise money to help out a charity. You can set up a contest to motivate your members and could even set up teams to help build relationships within your association. Remember that everything has a marketing spin so if you are helping yourselves or helping other understand what the association is about then you are doing a good thing! Remember to be positive and include as many people as possible...you want to help but you don't want to be anonymous!

Man it has been a long time!
I want to apologize for the time between posts! I have been crazy busy working on the new website design and since it is online and trucking I can get back to some blogging.
The marketing committee met last night and had a great discussion on ways to utilize schools as a tool to build your membership as well as give some great recognition to your state and local associations while building relationships with both students and professors. I feel that vocational schools and colleges with paralegal/legal assistant/legal secretary programs will be the best options when it comes to getting participation. One idea was to use schools to host your meetings and invite students to join you. This will give them access to your group and give them the opportunity to see how it could benefit them when they enter the work force. By using the schools facilities and by inviting the students you could potential save money on renting a room as well as bring in some potential members. Another idea was to host a career fair at the school and allow firms to send HR people to exhibit and interview the students for potential internships and/or jobs. This would be a great way to help out both the students and the law firms if they are having trouble filling positions...new graduates will often work for less money and can be trained without any preconceived ideas of how things are done.
NALS offers some great benefits to schools and students. The NALS textbooks are known to be among the best and most comprehensive while our ALS exam is the only certification geared to new professionals and students. We even have a curriculum guide to help a program get started without truly having to start from nothing.
Keep an eye out as the marketing committee will be putting together some information to make building these relationships with schools easier...we will even have a listing of schools for you!
