EXCITING!

There a ton of things going on these days with NALS! I made a similar blog post over on the NALS Community but I am going to gear this one more to how you can help NALS market itself and help make the new products and programs even better!

As many of you know last night was the first WebEd webinar session and it was a great success! We have also announced the topic of our second session and it will be held during the afternoon trying to reach those that can't attend the evening sessions. As you guys can see from the registration form being a NALS member will save you some cash on these sessions. These sessions are top notch and are on the same level of the presentations you would see at one of our conferences. These are going to become more frequent and will vary on times and topics. Along with these we are continuing our free Online Learning Center sessions. These sessions along with our conferences and meetings across the country provide a good base of CLE for all members! Take some time to invite your co-workers to these sessions! Also contact WebEd@nals.org for potential group discounts if you want to try and get a group together in your office to attend the next WebEd session!

The next big step we have taken over the last few months has been our dive into social networking! Hopefully you all know about our NALS Community as it has grown to 350 members. We also have a Facebook Group with over 500 and a LinkedIn network over 500 so it is as easy as ever to utilize your NALS membership to build a solid networking chain. We also jumped in the Twitter train and you can follow us at NALStweet on twitter to see updates and get reminders of what is going on with NALS.

The third big step we took is not nearly as exciting for you guys as it is for us. We recently went live with a new Member Login area which will allow you to edit your personal information directly on our database to help us make sure our information is as up to date as it can be. You can also use this as a directory to find members around the country and get in touch with them. The new functionality also includes a new e-commerce area which features a new shopping cart and it will make registering for things and purchasing store items.

We are trying to do all that we can to make membership in NALS as valuable as we can and we need your help to spread the word! NALS does not want to spend your dues money on advertising, we would rather spend it on great new features for you to enjoy but we do need your help so that we can grow our membership and continue to provide top-notch programs for you to take advantage of.

if you have been thinking big and have a good way to do this please leave it in the comment area for everyone to see!

do you Twitter?

I know you have probably heard about Twitter and maybe even are posting tweets of you own. For those of you that don't know what Twitter is, it is basically a way for you to post the things that you are doing each day so that those friends, family or colleagues that care can follow things that you do. A "tweet" is a post to Twitter, and these tweets are really just miniature blog posts (limited to 140 characters) and are informal ideas, thoughts, or goings on in peoples lives.

NALS is on Twitter now and you can sign up and follow us by going to twitter.com/NALStweet. We will be using this as a marketing tool to keep those following us up to date with what is going on with NALS. We will be posting reminders for deadlines, sneak peak info on events and meetings, updates to the website and other fun tidbits that we think will be interesting to those that are following us.

Why am I telling you this? Well a lot of people twitter...millions of people twitter...and I am not joking! You too can be a part of this information stream and can set up a twitter for your chapters to use as a way for your members to keep up with what is new and changing. It is as simple as updating your tweets and you can set up most mobile phones so you can update them from anywhere. They are short, sweet and to the point and are a FREE and easy way to keep people updated. And they can become quite fun!

At first I didn't understand the point either but now I check my tweets often and I see how the can be really beneficial to states and chapters if their members are on twitter or are willing to sign up and check so they can see what is going on...all the time!
